An Egyptian doctor performed 4,000 weight-loss surgeries by using the Butterfly technique, which is the first bariatric surgery made through a telescope that penetrates the body through the mouth. Many medical authorities from around the world, including the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders Conference that met in Dubai in July, recently endorsed the Butterfly technique after witnessing its success. Egypt’s Dr. Issam Abdul Jalil said among the benefits of this technique is that the operation does not leave the patient with any abdominal scars because it has no leaking complications, which occur in 3 to 5 percent of other weight-loss surgeries. He stressed that unlike all other bariatric surgeries, the Butterfly technique does not remove any part of the stomach or intestines. Dr. Abdul Jalil is leading Butterfly technique surgeries in Egypt, while the first surgery of its kind originally took place in Ohio in the United States and in three Indian governorates. The International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders Conference published an advanced research prepared by Dr. Abdul Jalil that featured the results of 4,000 Butterfly operations along with their follow-up reports that took place over a ten-year period. The surgeries performed in Egypt were considered among the most successful, with some marking a 100 percent success rate in achieving the perfect weight. Some 95 percent of the surgeries led to the cure from diabetes, 97 percent cured hypertension, and 88 percent cured infertility in men and 94 percent in women. The Butterfly technique has also been recommended as the best bariatric surgery.
